Over the next weeks, we will be presenting projects from the shortlist of the DAM Prize 2020 together with the Deutsches Architekturmuseum every second Thursday in a live stream.
The Newest Frankfurt – Building on May’s Ideas
DAM Deutsches Architekturmuseum Schaumainkai 43, Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, DeutschlandGottfried Böhms 100th birthday is on January 23, 2020. We intend to celebrate it: with an exhibition devoted to the pilgrimage church in Neviges, one of his most important designs. Commissioned by Franciscan monks and the second largest church in the Archdiocese of Cologne, a concrete cathedral was built between 1963 and 1968. The folded roof is currently being refurbished with an innovative textile-reinforced concrete layer.
In 2005 and 2006, there were major exhibitions at the DAM of the work of Gottfried Böhm and his father Dominikus Böhm. This exhibition presents archive materials from when the pilgrimage church was built and associates them with a view of the future. An extensive series of lectures brings together Böhm’s three architect sons, provides an insight into the technique of concrete restoration, and also enables the film “Die Böhms – Architektur einer Familie” to be shown in Frankfurt again.

Houses of the Year: The best single-family dwellings
DAM Deutsches Architekturmuseum Schaumainkai 43, Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, DeutschlandStarting on October 6, the winners of this year’s competition Houses of the Year will be presented; Callwey Verlag has awarded the prize together with the DAM, Informationszentrum Beton and the media partners Baumeister, Atriu/Ideales Heim, n-tv and Neue Zürcher Zeitung. Prize money of EUR 10,000 is attached to the first prize, while other winners receive an award only. The results will be published in the book “Houses of the Year” and presented in the exhibition in DAM. Criteria for the Jury in making a selection were a creative approach to the rural or urban environment, the spatial design of a private living space, the intelligent interplay between aesthetics, material and construction — and, not least of all, realizing the task of designing a detached house in a contemporary manner.
DAM Architectural Book Award 2020
DAM Deutsches Architekturmuseum Schaumainkai 43, Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, DeutschlandThe Frankfurt Book Fair and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) are presenting the jointly initiated International DAM Architectural Book Award for the twelfth time. The DAM would like to thank the Society of Friends of the DAM for its generous support of the prize. The award-winning books will be presented from October 21 – November 8, 2020 in the auditorium of the DAM
