The focus

Architectural theory is a key area of focus – ranging from Walter Ryff’s 1547 edition of Vitruvius to Alberti, Serlio, Scamozzi, Piranesi and exponents of classical modernism as well as contemporary authors. The almost complete collection of monographs published on German architects since 1900 is a further focal area in the library – complemented by monographs on foreign architects who are relevant to the field of architecture internationally or in their respective countries. Alongside the historical collections the DAM currently holds 70 international magazines and annuals. Special collections include the libraries of architects such as Max Cetto, Ernst May and Mart Stam bequeathed to the museum. Once a year, the library serves as the stage for the award ceremony of the DAM Architectural Book Award, which honors the best architectural books of the year.
