THE NEWEST FRANKFURT
Building on May's IdeasSep 17, 2020 – Oct 8, 2020
Students at the Philipp Holzmann College have developed experimental living cells for students in the context of subsistence-level housing, which was the central theme of the NEW FRANKFURT housing estate development program in the 1920s and 1930s. The living modules designed as Tiny-Houses — mobile houses no larger than a car-park space (10 sqm) with sliding, folding and multifunctional elements are intended as a campaign to show how hypothetically the current student housing shortage in Frankfurt could be combatted. Placed on the flat roofs of the terraced houses, they demon-strate a fictitious increase in housing densities on the Westhausen estate.
