Rooftop additions \u2013 Dealing with and Benefiting from the 5th Fa\u00e7ade in Modern and contemporary architecture<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thursday, 10 June 2021, 7pm<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the seventh event of the series \u201cContext, Contrast, Continuity \u2013 Heritage Conservation and Urban Development\u201d roof tops and their different functions in Modern and contemporary architecture will be discussed.<\/p>\n

Ranging from (green) rooftop terraces to roof top additions creating more space for housing or solar panels for energy \u2013 the different possibilities of rooftops and their benefits will be the focus. What can we learn from Modern architecture for today\u2019s buildings? Which effects on proportions, urban scale and spirit of place do changes bring?<\/p>\n

Architects from Tel Aviv and Frankfurt, Amir Peleg and Stefan Forster will discuss the different aspects with Ana Tostoes, architecture historian of DOCOMOMO and with Maria W\u00fcllenkemper, conservation expert of the state of Hesse.<\/p>\n

The online discussion event will be conducted in English.<\/p>\n

Context, Contrast, Continuity \u2013 Heritage Conservation and Urban Development<\/strong><\/p>\n

The international online debate event series \u201cContext, Contrast, Continuity \u2013 Heritage Conservation and Urban Development\u201d focuses on how the needs of conservation as well as development requirements can be managed in the urban context. How can historically developed urban fabrics\/structures or singular buildings withstand the pressure for change from e.g. the real estate industry or housing demands? What can be done by the City\u2019s administration, politicians and society to protect its cultural heritage? How can existing buildings be integrated into the ongoing development and possibly be adapted to the new standards of living of our era?\u00a0 Researchers and professionals from Israel as well as Germany will address and discuss these and similar questions.<\/p>\n

The international online debate event series \u201cContext, Contrast, Continuity \u2013 Heritage Conservation and Urban Development\u201d is a cooperation of the Liebling Haus- White City Center (Tel Aviv Yafo), the Deutsches Architekturmuseum and the ernst-may-gesellschaft (Frankfurt am Main), as well as of ICOMOS and Do.Co.Mo.Mo of Germany and Israel.
