The Talpiot Haifa Market and the Grossmarkthalle (wholesales market hall) in Frankfurt are at the centre of the evening’s discussion. The market hall in Haifa’s Hadar district had been built between 1937 and 1940 according to plans by the architect Moshe Gerstel in the International (Bauhaus) Style. Under the British Mandate, the market hall was an important landmark for bourgeois Europeans. The Grossmarkthalle in Frankfurt was built from 1926 to 1928 according to plans by Martin Elsaesser as part of the Neues Frankfurt programme for the growing metropolis. The historic market hall building has been renovated and converted to a new use by the architecture firm Coop Himmelb(l)au: today it forms an integral part of the new headquarters for the European Central Bank.

Architect Amir Freundlich will introduce the Talpoit Haifa Market building while Andrea Jürges, Deputy Director of the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (German Architecture Museum), will introduce the Grossmarkthalle Frankfurt as well as other market halls and their current state – followed by a discussion with Dr. Regev Nathansohn (anthropologist at Sapir Academic College, Sha’ar HaNegev) and with Architect Guy Shachar from the Haifa Municipality Department of Conservation.

December 10, 2020 – Livestream – 7pm CET/8pm IDT

Participation via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Qumf3NwvTxah_Mu1YgOAlQ

Participants receive 1 training point by using the clear name.

The online event will be conducted in English; Inbal Ben Asher Gitler will be the moderator.

The international online debate event series “Context, Contrast, Continuity – Heritage Conservation and Urban Development” focuses on how the needs of conservation as well as development requirements can be managed in the urban context.

[233
129
253
post-21965","tribe_events","type-tribe_events","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-mega-menu-en","veranstaltungs_formate-vortragsreihe","veranstaltungs_bedingungen-online","tribe_events_cat-veranstaltung-en","cat_veranstaltung-en
["GET
