US-Präsident John F. Kennedy betonte hier während seiner Deutschlandreise 1963\, dass „kein anderes Gebäude in Deutschland begründeten Anspruch auf den Ehrentitel der ‚Wiege der deutschen Demokratie‘ erheben“ kann. \nDie digitale Ausstellung in der Wandelhalle präsentiert in sechs Stationen\, in den Fensternischen gelegen\, die wechselvolle Baugeschichte der historischen Paulskirche und des heutigen Gebäudes. Ebenso bietet sie einen Überblick zur Frankfurter Nationalversammlung und deren Verfassungsgeschichte. Außerdem werden in Schlaglichtern mehr als 70 Jahre Debattenkultur vorgestellt und ein Ausblick auf den künftigen Demokratieort Paulskirche und das Haus der Demokratie gegeben. \nDie Ausstellung ist täglich von 10 bis 17 Uhr in der Paulskirche zu besichtigen\, außer wenn diese wegen städtischer Veranstaltungen für die Öffentlichkeit geschlossen ist. Who designs them\, and how can you have a say? The “City for All” exhibition visualizes how urban planning can be readily comprehensible and tangible. Czech urban planning and artist trio consisting of Osamu Okamura\, David Böhm\, and Jirí Franta renders the mechanisms of urban planning visible by means of model collages\, colorful city views steeped in detail\, and illustrations\, all custom-made for the DAM show. Their book publication “Die Stadt für alle – Handbuch für angehende Stadtplanerinnen und Stadtplaner” was selected as one of the winners of the 2022 iteration of the DAM Architectural Book Award and explains planning themes related to the city as our shared habitat. It is therefore critically important to reduce as quickly as possible both the CO2 emissions and the energy inputs involved in the manufacture and operation of buildings. This is a task society as a whole faces and it is one to be tackled in the interests of future generations and nature\, too. \nIt is crucial to create an awareness of the urgent need for change. In the process\, aspects such as climate protection\, mobility\, social integration and demographic change all have to be considered. One hundred years ago\, in the framework of the “Neues Frankfurt” housing program\, new housing estates arose that were prime examples of innovative\, social construction. The housing estates were located like satellites on the city limits but were monofunctional in thrust. Homes and work were separated into distinct zones\, which meant development of transport infrastructure became ever more important.\nFor decades\, this model which required a large amount of land on the city’s limits shaped urban planning\, up to and including the large housing estates of the 1960s and 1970s. A turning point in the direction of the internal development of the existing city commenced in the mid-1980s\, with a prime example being the IBA International Building Exhibition in West Berlin. This gave rise to strategies for repurposing wasteland and to participatory practices. Today\, mixed-use neighbourhoods are back on the drawing board\, uniting homes\, work\, and commerce\, whereby the central challenges are to create sustainable and socially mixed structures that provide a high quality of life despite the dearth of free land. \n“Building Cities Today?” showcases not only Frankfurt’s “Römerstadt” of 1928\, but also eight other neighbourhoods in Germany\, all of which were planned between 1990 and the 2020s. They range from Munich’s “Messestadt Riem” to the “WarnowQuartier” in Rostock\, and they all visualize the development strategies used in sustainable planning\, with two of the projects highlighting the limits to such undertakings and why they can fail. A city is never a definitive plan\, once and for all. Juli 2025\, 16 – 17 Uhr\nDeutsches Architekturmusem (DAM)\nAnmeldung: dam.vermittlung@stadt-frankfurt.de \nStudierende des Masterstudiengangs Umweltmanagement und Stadtplanung der Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (FUAS) führen durch die Ausstellung und geben Einblick in das Lehr- und Forschungsprojekt zur Ausstellung. \nBei ihren Forschungsreisen untersuchten sie beispielhafte Projekte wie die Messestadt Riem (München)\, die HafenCity (Hamburg) und die Bahnstadt (Heidelberg). Hierbei standen Kriterien wie Vergabeverfahren\, Wohnformen\, Einwohner_innendichte\, ökologische Konzepte und gestalterische Leitlinien im Fokus. Zentraler Bestandteil waren eigenständige Forschungsreisen in die Quartiere. Juli 2025\, 19:00-21:00 Uhr\nDeutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) >> 1.OG (in der Ausstellung: STADT BAUEN HEUTE?) \nEin Abend mit Geraldine Dening\, Mitgründerin von Architects for Social Housing (ASH) \nModeration: Tabea Latocha \nDas 2015 gegründete Londoner Kollektiv Architects for Social Housing (ASH) setzt sich mit seiner Architekturpraxis für eine soziale\, demokratische und gemeinwohlorientierte Stadtentwicklung und Wohnungspolitik ein. Dem Prinzip “for socialism in architecture” verpflichtet entwickeln die Architekt*innen von ASH in Kollaboration mit Bewohner*innen von Sozialwohnungen in London Antworten auf die gravierende Wohnungskrise. Um die Privatisierung und den Abriss von bezahlbarem Wohnraum zu verhindern\, entwirft ASH konkrete planerische und architektonische Alternativen für eine sozial-ökologische Weiterentwicklung von council housing estates. \nIn ihrem Vortrag gibt Geraldine Dening einen Einblick in die Arbeitsweise von ASH\, stellt konkrete Projekte des Kollektivs vor und diskutiert\, wie Architektur- und Planungspraxis als Instrumente für eine sozial-ökologische Transformation genutzt werden können. Dabei geht sie auf die Herausforderungen und Potentiale ein\, die mit kollaborativer Architekturpraxis und dem bestandserhaltenden Retrofitting von Sozialwohnsiedlungen verbunden sind. \nIm Anschluss an den Vortrag kommentiert Prof. Maren Harnack von der FRA UAS den Input und stellt eine Verbindung zur Situation in Frankfurt am Main her – einer Stadt\, die ebenso stark unter dem Druck des Wohnungsmarktes leidet wie London und vor ähnlichen Fragen einer sozial und ökologisch gerechten Stadtentwicklung steht. \nEine Kooperation mit dem Graduiertenkolleg Gewohnter Wandel und dem Historischen Museum Frankfurt. \nDie Veranstaltung findet auf Englisch statt / The event will be held in English. \nEs werden 2 Fortbildungspunkte der Architekten- und Stadtplanerkammer Hessen (AKH) vergeben.
